New ‘Friends of the Field Station’ launched
    The UMass Boston Nantucket Field Station announces the creation of the Friends of Nantucket Field Station (FFS), a non-profit group committed to the growth of the field station's scientific research and public outreach. FFS was officially inaugurated in August, following a field station open house. The gathering was hosted by a group of founding friends, headed by Nantucket residents John Flores and Donna Elle-Flores.  University of Massachusetts President Robert Caret and UMass Boston Chancellor J. Keith Motley were in attendance, along with field station director Sarah Oktay and 150 guests. — Wicked Local Nantucket

Service awards on selectmen agenda
    The selectmen will meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the community room of the police station at 4 Fairgrounds Road. Meetings are televised on Channel 17 beginning at 7 p.m.  Items on agenda include the Town of Nantucket Years of Service awards, an announcement that town counsel will be available Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. in the town building conference room to assist citizens with writing warrant articles, a planning office request to review and endorse the proposed plan for Hummock Pond Road bike path, a town administration review on the status of a memorandum of understanding for airport procurements, a review of the Health and Human Services funding recommendations process for FY13 and an update from Nantucket Hunting Association on progress on its proposed Madequecham facility.   — Wicked Local Nantucket

Historic Nantucket tour to be hosted by Massasoit
