The vehicle sustained more than $1,000 in damage and the bear ran into the woods. Northampton – A 37-year-old Southampton motorist escaped injury Sunday night when he hit a black bear on Bridge Road. The Daily Hampshire Gazette reported that the motorist told police that he saw the bear and was unable to stop in time. The collision caused more than $1,000 to the vehicle, described by the Gazette as a truck, and the bear ran into the woods after the accident.
