All nearby towns that have redistricted in recent years made at least some exceptions to allow some or all students to stay in their current schools, though school officials in those towns all caution that every district is different. In Lexington, fourth-grade students were allowed to choose to attend fifth grade in their current school as part of the redistricting plan adopted for the 2007-2008 school year. Similarly, Burlington students who were entering fifth grade had the choice of remaining in their current elementary school rather than moving to the new Memorial School for the 2011-2012 school year. The vote goes against the recommendations of Town Administrator Robert Mercier and a unanimous Board of Selectmen, who advocated changing it to an appointed position. The good news is the over 12,000 pounds of food was collected in the town and brought to St. Margaret’s Religious Education Building to sort.
